Yes, friend, there are so many different hair types around the world. Knowledge is amazing because I have learned so much about all different hair types. Like we have different blood types, skin types, and hair types. First thing first your specific race or ethnicity does not I repeat does not determine your hair type. It’s all genetic, you may get your parent’s hair or you might not get the same hair as your parents. Friend, let me tell you it’s your family tree, and the people that make it up pass down the genes that determine not only your skin color, and eye color but your hair color and type too. The Hair Care Chart
Come my friend let me share the hair chart with you, this chart will help you determine your hair type. It goes from type 1 to type 4, each type has subtypes. Subtypes get more specific to help you determine your hair type. Now once you determine your hair type, you will learn how to care for your hair the right way.
Like myself, I am type 4C, which is the hardest to manage in my opinion. Ladies with frizzy, tight curls very often use chemical treatments to tame their hair. This is how we lose our natural hair texture. I have been trying to get rid of the chemically processed hair for many years. Due to over-processing my hair, my hair is very brittle, very frizzy, and has an extremely slow growth rate. But once I get my natural hair back, these natural hair care products will be a lifesaver for me and my hair.
Don’t get me wrong I love my curls, I just would like them to be a little more manageable link here. I remember when I was small my curls were manageable but things changed over time, right? However, getting my hair back natural will take a while, but while I’m waiting I do my research on how to care for my hair type and I have the perfect day washing system that will help me to keep my hair all natural and manageable. Now friends let’s talk about hair types and see if you can determine your hair type.
Hair Type 1 – A, B and C
Friends if you have hair type 1 then you have straight hair. But straight hair also comes with texture too, meaning you have the hair types for category 1.
- Type 1A hair has no bend, bounce, or wave, just very straight hair. It can be difficult to add texture to it, so as a result people with straight hair use perms to get a little bit of a curl from time to time.
- Type 1B hair is still straight but has a little wave to it, not much but enough that it has a little bit of a bounce and subtle curves in the wave. But this type of hair is easier to curl without chemical treatments.
- Type 1C hair has a little bit of a combination with straight hair with a little bit of a curl. This type of hair is affected by weather conditions and humidity, but not all the time.
Type 2 Hair: A, B, and C – Hair Care Tools
Now this hair type has waves as a texture, but the waves vary. You have the scale to determine exactly which hair type you have.
- Type 2A hair is loose waves which means the hair is straight down at the crown of the head. This means the waves slowly form down towards the middle of the head, the waves are very fine and thin meaning no texture at all.
- Type 2B hair is straight hair at the crown with the waves starting in the middle. But these waves have more defined to them forming a S shape as they descend to the hair tip. Waves like this are usually a bit more coarse in texture and can be frizzy too.
- Type 2C hair has waves from the crown to the tip. But the texture of the wave is more along the lines or ringlet. Also, the texture can be coarse and the hair is thick plus this hair type is extremely prone to frizzing.
Hair Care Type 3 – A, B, and C
Now onto the next hair type. Hair type 3 is more popular for hair. It is the hair that we dream of having, those big, amazing bouncy curls. Type 3 hair types have that smooth shiny hair with the volume that we all would like to have right. This hair seems like it says I’m healthy and beautiful, that is the hair we try to strive for. Unfortunately, we don’t always have this hair, like I said many times it’s all about our gene pool.
- Type 3A hair has curls that are big loose spirals. The curls appear to be shiny and springy with a soft texture that defines the S shape.
- Type 3B hair has those tighter curls that range from ringlets to corkscrews. If you have this hair type you experience more volume and density as well. But this hair type can lean more towards the coarse side too.
- Type 3C hair has curls that are more on the side curly-coily type, meaning your curls are in an extremely tight corkscrew shape. In this type of curl, your hair will appear to have shrinkage. That means your hair has that great volume and will appear more dense.
Type 4 Hair – Hair Care Products
Now this is my hair type, with most people with an ethnic background you may fall into this hair type. - Type 4A hair has curls that are extremely tight with a distinct S shape. As well this hair type is dense with springy coils varying from wiry to fine. Usually, this hair is very coarse and thick.
- Type 4B hair is unique in that the curls look like a Z-shaped pattern with sharp edges and angles. With this hair type, the curls are tighter but less defined in shape. Also, the curls stand from fine and thin to wiry to coarse.
- Type 4C hair is the hair I have, dense, thick, and coarse with a little bit of definition in the curls. My hair type of curls can range from super thin to wiry and coarse. The curls are very delicate and can be lost easily sometimes, plus it frizzes really bad some days.
